League City sits on I-45 between Houston and Galveston, and its debt lawsuits split along similar lines. Small and mid-sized cases are often heard right in League City, at the county offices on Calder. Larger ones go south to the courthouse in Galveston. A handful of residents live on the Harris County side and deal with Houston-area courts instead.
Texas Debt Law defends League City residents sued by credit card banks, debt buyers, collection agencies and lenders, for a flat fee. Se habla español.

Who Lives Where
League City has about 118,456 residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2024 estimate. About 98% of them live in Galveston County. The remaining 2% or so live in the part of the city that lies in Harris County. The county on your citation tells you which system you're in.
Galveston County's Justice Courts
Galveston County's Justice of the Peace Courts page lists four precincts. Two of them list an office at the same League City address, 174 Calder Drive, Suite 101:
- Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, whose page lists League City as its office.
- Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, which lists offices in La Marque and League City. The county shows limited hours for the League City office, so check before you go.
The other two precincts list offices in Bacliff, Texas City, Galveston, Santa Fe and Crystal Beach. Because two courts share one League City building, the precinct number on your citation is what tells you which judge has your case. The county's precinct pages include a precinct map.
Justice courts hear claims of up to $20,000, which takes in most credit card suits. Your answer is due by the end of the 14th day after you were served (Tex. R. Civ. P. 502.5).
County and District Courts in Galveston
For larger claims, Galveston County lists its county courts at law and its district courts at 600 59th Street in Galveston, the county seat. In those courts your answer is due by 10:00 a.m. on the Monday after 20 days (Rule 99(b)), and a summary judgment motion filed on or after March 1, 2026 must be answered within 21 days after it's filed (Rule 166a).
There's some help closer to home: the District Clerk lists a League City office at 174 Calder Road alongside its main office in Galveston. Even so, most of what happens in a county or district court case is written and e-filed. We handle that from our office and let you know in advance if a hearing needs you on the island.
On the Harris County Side
If your League City address is in Harris County, a suit may be filed in one of Harris County's 16 justice courts or in its civil courts in downtown Houston. The deadlines are the same; the courthouses and local procedures aren't.
Know Your Date
Our answer deadline calculator estimates your deadline from the date of service. If you miss it, the plaintiff can ask for a default judgment and then pursue your bank accounts or non-exempt property.
What Defense Looks Like
Every case we take starts the same way: a timely answer. From there, we test the plaintiff's case piece by piece.
- Is this the right plaintiff? Debt buyers have to show the account was assigned to them, with records that identify your account.
- Is it too old? The general limitations period for debt in Texas is four years (Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 16.004), and debt buyers can't sue on time-barred consumer debt (Fin. Code § 392.307).
- Is the number right? We compare the claimed balance with the statements and the agreement.
- Did the collector break the rules? Abusive or deceptive collection can support claims under the FDCPA and Texas Debt Collection Act, a separate service from debt defense.
Then we pursue the result that fits: dismissal, trial or a written settlement. Our firm has had hundreds of debt lawsuits dismissed, and we'll tell you honestly what we see in yours.

League City FAQs
Two courts are listed at 174 Calder Drive. How do I know which is mine?
Read the precinct on your citation. "Precinct 3" and "Precinct 4" are different courts with different judges, even though both list a League City office at that address.
Do I have to drive to Galveston?
Only if your case is in a county or district court and a hearing requires you there. Most case work, including the answer, discovery and settlement talks, doesn't.
I live in the Harris County part of League City. Can I still hire you?
Yes. We defend debt cases in Harris County too. See our Houston page for how that county's courts are organized.
A collector froze my bank account after a judgment I didn't know about. What now?
Call quickly. Depending on how you were served, the judgment may be challenged, and some funds may be exempt. We also negotiate post-judgment settlements at the same flat fees as debt defense. More answers are in our debt lawsuit Q&A.
