Texas Debt Law

Being sued and served

Where can a creditor sue me in Texas?

Short answer

For a consumer debt, Texas law lets a creditor sue only in the county where you actually signed the contract or the county where you live when the suit is filed. The federal FDCPA has a similar rule for debt collectors. A case filed in the wrong county can be challenged.
