Texas Debt Law

Garnishment, liens and protected property

Can a creditor garnish my wages in Texas?

Short answer

Not for ordinary consumer debt. The Texas Constitution prohibits garnishing current wages except for court-ordered child support and spousal maintenance. Federal agencies can garnish for some federal debts, such as federal student loans and taxes.
