Round Rock has about 135,359 residents (U.S. Census Bureau, 2024 estimate), and nearly all of them live in Williamson County. A small part of the city lies in Travis County. When a credit card bank or a debt buyer sues someone with a Round Rock address, the papers almost always come from a Williamson County court.
Texas Debt Law defends people in those lawsuits for a flat fee. We file the answer, demand the plaintiff's proof, and negotiate only when settling serves you. Our principal office is in Frisco, and we handle Round Rock cases by phone, email and e-filing.

Read the Top of Your Citation First
The heading of the citation tells you which court has your case, and that controls everything else. In Williamson County you will usually see one of three kinds of court:
- "Justice Court, Precinct One" (or Two, Three or Four). Williamson County has four justice court precincts. The Precinct One court is in Round Rock, at 1801 E. Old Settlers Boulevard, according to the county's Precinct One page. Justice courts hear civil suits up to $20,000 (Gov't Code § 27.031), which covers most credit card cases.
- "County Court at Law No. ___." Williamson County has five county courts at law.
- "___ District Court." The district courts handle larger civil claims.
The county courts at law and the district courts sit at the Williamson County Justice Center in Georgetown. A Round Rock address doesn't mean your case is in the Round Rock justice court. The county says you can find your precinct on your voter registration card or with its address search.
Your First Two Weeks After Being Served
If your case is in a justice court, the first stretch usually looks like this:
- Day 0: you are served. Write down the date. The answer clock starts here.
- The next few days: gather what you have. Old statements, letters from collectors, any payment records. Don't call the plaintiff's lawyer to "explain"; what you say can be used against you.
- By day 14: an answer must be on file. In justice court the deadline is the end of the 14th day after service (Tex. R. Civ. P. 502.5). If the case is in a county court at law or district court, the answer is due by 10:00 a.m. on the Monday after 20 days (Rule 99(b)). Our answer deadline calculator gives you the date.
- After the answer: the plaintiff has to prove its case. That is where most of the defense work happens.
Precinct One's page says petitions, answers and other civil documents can be filed through eFileTexas or in person. We file electronically, so you don't need to visit Old Settlers Boulevard to answer.
What We Look For in a Round Rock Debt Case
Many of these suits are filed by companies that bought old accounts from the original lender. The plaintiff has to show it owns your account and that the balance is right. We check for:
- Sale records that list a batch of accounts but never identify yours
- Affidavits signed by employees of the debt buyer who have no first-hand knowledge of the original lender's records
- Interest and fees added after charge-off that the agreement doesn't support
- Accounts that went into default more than four years before suit (Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 16.004); a debt buyer can't sue on time-barred consumer debt at all (Fin. Code § 392.307)
When the paperwork has holes, we push for dismissal. When it is solid and you would rather end the case, we negotiate terms you can live with and get the agreement in writing.

Round Rock Questions We Hear Often
I live in Round Rock but my citation says Precinct Two or Four. Is that a mistake?
Not necessarily. Justice court precincts follow county precinct lines, not city limits. If you were sued in a precinct where you don't live, it may be worth a look, but check the county's address search first.
My house is on the Travis County side of Round Rock. Where would I be sued?
Only a small part of Round Rock is in Travis County. If you live there, a suit could be filed in a Travis County justice court instead. The answer deadlines are the same; only the court and the courthouse change.
Precinct One is close to me. Should I just go down there and explain?
The clerks can answer general questions about procedure, but the county's justice court page says the rules of judicial ethics bar court staff from giving legal advice or telling you how to present your case. A written answer filed on time is what protects you from a default judgment.
If they win, can they take money from my paycheck?
Not for a consumer debt. Texas protects current wages from garnishment (Tex. Const. art. XVI, § 28). Bank accounts are where collection usually happens. Your homestead and up to $50,000 in personal property ($100,000 for a family) are generally exempt (Property Code chs. 41 and 42).
I already have a judgment. Is there anything left to do?
Often, yes. We can check whether a default judgment can still be challenged, and we negotiate post-judgment settlements for the same flat fees as our debt defense work.
