Texas Debt Law

Defenses and the statute of limitations

Can a debt buyer sue me on a time-barred debt in Texas?

Short answer

No. Since 2019, Texas law bars debt buyers from suing or starting arbitration on consumer debt after the limitations period has run. Federal Regulation F also bars debt collectors from suing or threatening to sue on time-barred debt.
